Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 16, 2026
StoryFunTime ("StoryFunTime," "we," "us") is operated by Story Fun Time LLC, a U.S. company located in Oklahoma. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the StoryFunTime iPhone and iPad app, Android app, and website at storyfuntime.com.
Who StoryFunTime is for
StoryFunTime is designed for adults (parents, grandparents, and family members) who create personalized, voice-narrated storybooks for the children in their lives. Accounts may only be created by adults 18 or older. Children may watch and listen to finished stories. Children never create accounts, and we never ask a child for their name, email, or any other contact information.
Our promise about your photos
We never save your original photos. When you upload a photo to create a character, it is used for one purpose only: generating your illustrated StoryFunTime character. As soon as you accept your character or leave the character screen, the original photo is permanently deleted from our systems. If anything interrupts that, our system automatically deletes any leftover photo within 1 hour of when it was last used. We do not keep a copy, a backup, or an archive of it.
- Original photos are never stored after your character is created.
- Original photos are never used to train artificial intelligence (Ai) models, ours or anyone else's.
- Original photos are never sold, shared for advertising, or used for any purpose other than creating the character you asked for.
- We do not create or keep facial recognition templates, face scans, or biometric identifiers from your photos.
- If character creation fails or you cancel, the photo is still permanently deleted automatically.
The only thing we keep is the finished illustrated character, so you can use it in your stories. You can delete any character at any time.
Setting pictures are different. If you upload a picture of a place to use as the background for a page, it becomes part of that story: we keep it with the story and permanently delete it when you delete the story or your account.
One legal exception: if an uploaded photo appears to contain child sexual abuse material, federal law requires us to preserve it and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement. This is the only circumstance in which an uploaded photo is not immediately deleted.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your email address, username, and password, or the sign-in links we email you.
- Photos you upload: used only to create characters, then permanently deleted as described above.
- Setting pictures: a picture of a place you upload as the background for a page, kept with that story until you delete it.
- Voice recordings: the narration you record for your stories. Your voice is the heart of StoryFunTime, so recordings are saved as part of your finished books until you delete them. Your recordings are not sent to any Ai service.
- Story content: character names, children's first names and ages you enter, the narrator's name, story titles, story text you type or choose, picture instructions, and music selections.
- Purchase records: a record of purchases on your account. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
- Messages to us: anything you send to support or report through the app.
Information collected automatically
- Web server logs: like most websites, our web server records each request it receives: the internet (IP) address it came from, the date and time, the address requested, and the "user agent" (which names the browser or app and the kind of device). We use these logs only to keep StoryFunTime secure, to fix problems, and to count how many pages of our website are viewed each hour; for that count we keep only the number, nothing about who. Cloudflare, which delivers our website, also sees IP addresses.
- Account activity: the records we need to run your account: when you sign in, which hours you use StoryFunTime (kept 13 months), what you make (characters, stories, pictures) and when, your purchases, and the language you choose. They are linked to your account. We don't use them for advertising.
- Sign-up IP address: the internet address used when an account is created, kept with your free-trial record to prevent misuse of the one-per-person free trial. It is removed when you delete your account.
- Your country: when you sign up and when you buy, we note the country your connection comes from, as reported by our network provider (Cloudflare). For this we keep only the country (for example "US"), not your IP address. It is kept with your account and purchase records and sent to Stripe with your payment, and we use it only to understand where our customers are.
- Agreements: if you accept a Coordinator or fundraiser agreement, we record the date, your email address, your IP address, and the user agent, as a record that you agreed.
- Invitation code: if you arrive through someone's invitation link, your browser remembers that code for up to 90 days (Ambassador and Coordinator links, 30 days) so the right person gets credit when you sign up. It is not used for advertising or to follow you on other websites.
- Voice typing: if you speak instead of typing, your browser's or device's speech recognition (Google or Apple) turns it into text. If that isn't available, our own server does it instead. We don't keep the audio.
What we do not collect: we do not collect precise location, contacts, or browsing history outside our app, and we never ask a child for contact information. We do not collect device identifiers, advertising IDs, or crash reports, and our app does not report your device model or operating system to us. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we use information
- To create your characters, stories, videos, online books, and PDFs.
- To save your finished books so you can watch, download, and share them.
- To run your account, keep records of purchases, and provide customer support.
- To keep StoryFunTime safe: filtering content, reviewing reports, and enforcing our Content Standards.
- To send service emails (such as “your story is ready”). Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link for anything that isn't essential to your account.
- To fix problems and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your photos, voice, or stories for advertising, and we do not use them to train Ai models.
Ai services and other companies we work with
StoryFunTime uses trusted third-party service providers to operate. In our iPhone app, before your first photo or your first story, a screen, "How StoryFunTime uses Ai", says exactly what we send to each Ai service below and asks your permission. If you choose "Not now", nothing is sent and nothing is made until you agree. We record the date you agreed and which version of that screen you saw; if we change it, we ask you again. You can read it again at any time in My Account in the iPhone app. On our website and in our Android app, before you upload your first photo, we ask your permission to send it to our Ai image provider for character creation. These providers may only use your information to perform services for us, under written agreements that require them to protect it, and are contractually prohibited from keeping your photos or using them to train their models.
- Ai character pictures and story pictures: Replicate, which runs Google's Gemini image model. It receives the photo you upload, the character details you enter, your illustrated characters, any setting picture you upload for a page, and a description of each page's picture (which can include your characters' names, the narrator's name, your picture instructions, and words from the page). It is the only Ai service that receives your original photo.
- Ai story writing, safety checks, and picture checking: xAI (Grok). It writes and checks your stories. To make sure everything is suitable for a children's story, it also reads what you type: your username, the names of characters, children, grown-ups and narrators, story titles and themes, picture instructions, and the text of every page. It receives the story details you enter or tell us out loud (such as title, theme and story text; a story you tell out loud is turned into words by our own server first), your characters' first names, ages and short descriptions, the narrator's name, and your illustrated characters and story pictures (to describe them and to check that characters look the same from page to page). It never receives your original photos or your setting pictures.
- Storage and delivery of your pictures, recordings, videos, and PDFs: bunny.net
- Email delivery: Brevo
- Card payments: Stripe
- Website security and delivery: Cloudflare, which sees visitors' IP addresses.
- Speech recognition for voice typing: Google or Apple, through your browser or device (see “Voice typing” above).
- Analytics and crash reporting: none. We don't use any outside analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting company. Our own web server logs are described under "Information collected automatically".
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of a child or any person, or as part of a sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
StoryFunTime is a service for adults to make stories for children. It is not directed to children under 13, and only adults 18 or older can create an account. We follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC's COPPA Rule. This section explains what information about children we handle and the rights parents have.
Information about children that adults give us
- A child's first name and age, so the story can be personalized. We never need a child's last name, school, address, birthday, or contact information.
- Photos of a child, used once to create a character and then permanently deleted, the same as every photo. We do not create face scans or facial templates.
- Voice recordings made by the adult, which may include a child's voice if the child reads along. These are kept with the story until deleted.
- Only upload photos or recordings of a child if you are that child's parent or legal guardian, or have their parent or guardian's permission.
How children's information is used and shared
- Only to create and show the story, character, video, book, and PDF the adult asked for.
- Shared only with the service providers listed above that help make the story (such as our Ai image provider and hosting), under written agreements requiring them to keep it secure and not keep or use it for their own purposes, including training Ai.
- We never sell children's information, never use it for advertising, and never disclose it to anyone else except where the law requires.
How long we keep children's information
- Photos: deleted as soon as the character is made, and never later than 1 hour after the photo was last used (see “Our promise about your photos”).
- First names, ages, characters, recordings, and stories: kept only while the account holder keeps the story, and permanently deleted, including all pictures, recordings, videos, and PDFs, when the story or account is deleted, and from backups within 14 days after that. If an account's storage period ends, its stories are locked and then permanently deleted 90 days later unless storage is renewed. We do not keep children's information indefinitely.
Parents' rights
A parent or guardian can ask to review the information we hold about their child, ask us to delete it, or tell us to stop collecting it, by emailing [email protected]. We will confirm you are the child's parent or guardian before sharing or deleting anything, and respond within 14 business days.
Keeping children's information secure
We keep a written information security program for children's information, with a named person responsible, a yearly review of risks, and regular testing of our safeguards.
If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without the consent the law requires, we will delete it promptly. If you believe this has happened, contact us at [email protected].
Sharing and who can see your stories
- Each story can be shared as soon as it's made, through its own private, hard-to-guess link. Stories are never publicly listed, searchable, or shown to other StoryFunTime users.
- Stories are shared only when you choose to send a link or file to someone.
- Shared links are private, hard-to-guess, and are not indexed by search engines. Anyone you send a link to can view it, so share only with people you trust.
- You can turn off a shared link at any time.
How long we keep information
- Original photos: permanently deleted as soon as the character is accepted or you leave the character screen, and never later than 1 hour after the photo was last used.
- Characters, setting pictures, voice recordings, and finished books: kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Free sample stories: trying a free sample story creates an account, so the sample is kept like any other story, until you delete it or your account.
- Storage period: when an account's storage period ends, its stories are locked. They are permanently deleted 90 days later unless storage is renewed, and we email you before anything is deleted.
- Invitation codes: remembered in your browser for 90 days.
- Account information: kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion, except records we must keep by law (such as purchase records) or safety records related to Content Standards violations.
- Backups: our backups are kept for 7 days, so deleted data is removed from backups within 14 days.
Your choices and rights
- Delete anything: delete individual characters, recordings, or stories in the app at any time.
- Delete your account: go to the Account page in the app and choose Delete account, or visit storyfuntime.com/delete-account. This permanently deletes your account, characters, recordings, and stories.
- Access or correct your information: contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within 14 business days.
- Emails: unsubscribe from anything non-essential using the link in any email.
- Depending on where you live (such as California, other U.S. states, the EU, or UK), you may have additional rights to know, access, correct, delete, or port your data. We honor these requests for all users.
If you live outside the United States (including the EU and UK)
StoryFunTime is run from the United States and is available in many countries. This section explains what that means for your information, and the rights you have wherever you live.
To know which country our customers are in, we note only the country your connection comes from, not your IP address. (Our web server logs and the sign-up IP address, described above, are kept for security only.)
Your rights
- See your information: your characters, stories, recordings, videos, and PDFs are all in the app. To get a list of all the information we hold about you, email us.
- Correct it: change your email address on the Account page, and change your stories and characters in the app. For anything else, email us.
- Download it: download each story's video and PDF in the app. For a copy of the rest of the information we hold about you, such as your account details and purchase records, email us and we will send it to you.
- Delete it: go to the Account page in the app and choose Delete account, or visit storyfuntime.com/delete-account, or email us. As described above, we keep only the purchase records the law requires and safety records related to Content Standards violations.
- Object or limit: you can ask us to stop or limit a particular use of your information. You can unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in any email.
- Complain: you can complain to the data protection authority where you live. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
How to ask: email [email protected], ideally from the email address on your account. We reply within 14 business days, and we may ask you to confirm the account is yours before we share or delete anything.
Where your information is stored and processed
Our servers and database are in the United States. Your pictures, recordings, videos, and PDFs are also stored by bunny.net in Los Angeles, in the United States. If you use StoryFunTime from another country, your information is sent to the United States and processed there. Some of the companies below also handle it in other countries, as noted.
Who handles your information for us
- Ai character and page pictures: Replicate (United States), running Google's Gemini image models. It receives the photos you upload for a character, the character details you enter, your illustrated characters, any setting picture you upload for a page, and a description of each page's picture (which can include names and words from the page).
- Ai story writing, safety checks, and picture checking: xAI (Grok), United States. It reads what you type to check it is suitable (your username, names, titles, themes, picture instructions, and page text), and receives the story details you enter or tell us out loud, your characters' first names, ages and short descriptions, the narrator's name, and your illustrated characters and story pictures. It never receives your original photos.
- Storage and delivery of your pictures, recordings, videos, and PDFs: bunny.net, a company based in Slovenia. Files are stored in Los Angeles and delivered through bunny.net's servers around the world, which may keep a temporary copy near the person watching.
- Website security and delivery: Cloudflare (United States), through its worldwide network. It sees visitors' IP addresses.
- Email delivery: Brevo, a company based in France. It receives your email address and the emails we send you.
- Card payments: Stripe (United States). It receives the payment details you enter at checkout, and the country your connection came from. We never see or store your full card number.
- Voice typing: your phone's or browser's own speech recognition (Google or Apple). When that isn't available, our own server does it, with no outside company.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, encrypted storage on our servers, access controls that limit who on our team can see data, and trusted hosting providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your family's stories.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect.
